Following months of confusion, Cristian Chivu is now officially owned by AS Roma.
The Romanian international had signed on from Ajax in the summer for £12m to be paid over a period of time.
However, the Dutch side complained that there were delays in receiving financial guarantees and in late August threatened to recall the player to Amsterdam.
Negotiations managed to find a happy medium, as Chivu agreed a new deal to stay in Rome on loan until January.
However, the Giallorossi have now found the necessary cash and completed the full transfer this evening.
Ajax and Roma confirmed a £8.2m credit transfer had been received, which added to the £2m originally handed over in the summer effectively cuts the total price of the transfer.
Avoiding payment over a period of time, Roma have earned a £2m discount on the defender.
Chivu has already been a success in his first Serie A season, scoring two goals.

Chivu Is Finally Roma's Romanian
09/26/2003.
The official AS Roma website announced the Serie A club sealed off the permanent move of defender Cristian Chivu from Dutch giants Ajax.
Therefore the promise made by chairman Franco Sensi on Wednesday, in which he said Roma would pay the remaining 12.5 million Euros sum Roma owned Ajax for Chivu in cash, was maintained.
It is still unclear whether Roma received a discount from the Dutch side for preferring to pay the 12.5 million Euros immediately instead of dishing out the sum over a longer period of time, a solution that needed bank guarantees.
Until today's money transfer, Chivu was on a four month loan at Roma as the Giallorossi had been unable to offer these guarantees before the transfer window closed on August 31st.

Ajax have completed the transfer of Cristian Chivu with AS Roma. The Roman club have met their obligations by paying an amount immediately, instead of the originally agreed bank guarantee.
Ajax and AS Roma reached agreement about the loan of Cristian Chivu on 1 September. As a result of the measures now taken, Chivu will be officially transfered to AS Roma on 1 January 2004.
