There are reports that Roma’s financial woes could see Ajax pull out of their deal for Christian Chivu.


The defender was signed from the Dutch club this summer for around £12m, but only £2m has been handed over at this point.


It is suggested on Italian website Tgcom.it that the guarantee papers for the remaining sum have not been completed, so Chivu is still not eligible to play in an official match.


The Giallorossi maintain that the paperwork has been printed up by Capitalia, but according to these reports the bank denies it has guaranteed payment.


This is a further blow to Roma’s already delicate financial situation, as the club is one of several under investigation for providing false paperwork to prove its stability.


The FIGC looks set to rule that Roma, Napoli and others were unaware of the irregularities and are to be given a further twelve days to provide accurate guarantees.


This nonetheless leaves £5m of uncovered debt plus the £10m for Chivu’s transfer to be found by the August 27 deadline.


Roma have until August 30 to complete Chivu's transfer and register the player for their opening Serie A match against Udinese.

De internetsite van RTL meldt dat Cristian Chivu momenteel terug is in Amsterdam in afwachting van duidelijkheid omtrent de bankgarantie die Ajax kreeg van AS Roma voor de transfer van de Roemeen. Het bericht staat vreemd genoeg niet op de teletekstpagina van de commerciele zender, alleen op internet. De politie deed vorige week, zoals bekend, een inval bij AS Roma, nadat er verdenkingen waren gerezen dat handtekeningen van bankgaranties te verkrijging van de licentie voor het nieuwe seizoen zouden zijn vervalst. Chivu zou zich nu, volgens de internetsite van RTL in het krachthonk van Ajax fit houden.

Eerder vandaag kwam Planet Football nog met een interview waarin hij zich heel positief uitliet over zijn nieuwe club.
