Emerson and Roma are still no closer to agreeing terms over a new contract after the latest round of talks.
Giallorossi sporting director Franco Baldini met with Gilmar Veloz, the player’s agent, last night but no significant forward steps were taken.
The Brazilian’s current deal expires in 2005 and he will be sold in the summer if his deal isn’t extended - as Roma don’t want to run the risk of losing him for nothing 12 months later.
There seems to be two major stumbling blocks surrounding the talks. Emerson wants a pay increase but also guarantees that Roma will remain competitive.
However, the club are struggling to provide him with either given the difficult financial times of the Italian game.
Reports around the Stadio Olimpico suggest that owner Franco Sensi is ready to sacrifice the playmaker for a substantial fee.
