Walter Samuel’s advisor has confirmed rumours that the Roma ace is on the verge of joining Real Madrid.

Reports yesterday claimed that a deal could be done by Monday and talks have been taking place.

"Walter wants to go and play for Real," Abel Balbo – a former Roma and Argentina striker – told Spanish newspaper AS.

"It is a decision that he has already made. All that is missing is an agreement between the two clubs.

"I expect the negotiations to be long though as Roma don’t want to sell but they may be forced to because of their financial situation."

However, it is worth remembering that Balbo made similar claims last month after Chelsea were linked.

"Chelsea have made a big offer and the Italian club are considering it," the South American stated at the time.

Samuel reveals Roma regret

Walter Samuel is set to seal his passage to Real Madrid next week and reveals the reasons why.


“We could have won the Scudetto this season,” said the Roma defender in a press conference.


“Despite the fact we put in a great performance, we lost points along the way in a simply incredible fashion.”


The Giallorossi took second place behind Milan despite picking up just five fewer points than their title-winning campaign of 2000-01.


“I don’t put too much importance on the two head to head battles we lost with Milan,” continued Samuel, “but rather on the draw away to Ancona, losing at Brescia and even allowing Bologna to win at the Olimpico.”


The Argentine has made his dissatisfaction with the lack of silverware at Roma perfectly clear and this is the main reason he wishes to move on this summer.


Although offers from Chelsea and Juventus were touted, it seems as if Real Madrid will be his destination as early as next week.


“We will decide his future during Monday’s Board of Directors meeting,” revealed Director of Sport Franco Baldini.


“There are plenty of offers on the table, but Real Madrid have the advantage as that is the players’ preferred option.”

Inter Milan have made a shock late move for AS Roma defender Walter Samuel.
The Argentine has been tabled contract offers by both Real Madrid and Chelsea worth around £12 million over four years.

But talks with Roma over Samuel's transfer fee have stalled, so allowing Inter a chance to table a bid of their own.

Inter supremo Massimo Moratti has contacted Roma about a £20 million cash
