Buffon staying in Italy Monday
17 July, 2006
Juventus ‘keeper Gigi Buffon has seemingly ruled out a possible move to Real Madrid and the Premiership.
The Italian international is expected to be sold by the Old Lady following the demotion of his club to Serie B on Friday and he has no shortage of admirers.
The Spanish giants have been associated, but so too have both Manchester United and Arsenal in recent times.
The former Highbury outfit have been hotly paired with the ‘keeper, but the No 1 isn’t so keen on leaving the peninsula.
“His primary objective is to remain in Italy,” Silvano Martina, the shot-stopper’s representative, told the Guardian newspaper.
“He likes London as a possible destination, but his desire is to continue his playing career in Serie A.”
Buffon’s wish to remain at home has seemingly opened the door for Milan to sign the former Parma custodian.
The Rossoneri have already been linked with the individual in recent months and a move could now occur seeing as they have been assured of their Serie A status for the new campaign.
Roma are also an option for the 'keeper even if his wage demands may prove to be a problem for the Giallorossi.
Buffon is one of numerous high profile players on the verge of leaving the Bianconeri as a result of the Calciopoli verdicts.
However, it is understood that Juve will postpone all major sales until the verdict regarding their appeal against the 30 point deduction inflicted on them has been delivered.
