Lippi upbeat over stopper from Skysport.com Italy coach Marcelo Lippi has revealed that star stopper Alessandro Nesta could be fit for their Group E opener against Ghana on Monday. The Milan star missed training on Thursday with an adductor muscle problem as The Azzurri's injury problems refuse to subside. Gianluca Zambrotta and Gennaro Gattuso have both been confirmed as missing the game against the African nation, but Lippi has now posted a positive bulletin regarding his central defender. "Nesta has the most chance to recover," said Lippi. "It is an injury that he has been dealing with for some time, for a few months." Aside from the scandal currently engulfing Italian domestic football, Lippi's cause has also not been helped by a number of fitness concerns in his squad. As well as Nesta, Zambrotta and Gattuso, star forward Francesco Totti has also been struggling, however the Azzurri head coach refuses to let the run of injuries dent his faith in his squad's chances. "My only worry is to get to the day before the game with as many players in the best condition possible," Lippi added. "Unfortunately, we have had some injuries. You hope, obviously, that you will have everyone available but if you have faith in your squad you can't cry about a few players missing. "You need to have faith in the squad. "I've never cried about injuries. I might have a thousand faults as a coach but I feel it is very important that all the players in the squad feel important. "That is my character, if someone is injured then I try to find something positive. "I want to transmit the greatest faith possible to my players and especially in moments when there are injuries. "I am not angry or upset by the injuries, we will get to Sunday or Monday morning and then decide." Lippi说Nesta有望在对Gona的比赛中上场,但Zambrotta and Gattuso将会错过首场比赛。 |
